Special care begins with special people. Sara Jones, D.V.M. has been with Mountain Empire Affiliated Hospitals since 1998 and has worked diligently since that time in developing her interests in this rapidly growing area of our practice. She completes a multitude of continuing education hours of focused study in this field annually. Additionally, Dr. Jones is a member of the AAV (Association of Avian Veterinarians) and the Exotic Animal Association. Some members of our staff have received training in the handling, care, and behavior of these special animals.

Mountain Empire Small Animal Hospital has made a commitment to provide excellent care for our avian and exotic patients. We have in-house blood chemistry capabilities as well as access to outside labs that provide a wide variety of additional diagnostics that are often necessary for avian, reptilian, and pocket pet species. In addition, we offer special diagnostics for our patients in the form of ultrasound and endoscopy. Laser surgery is available at our sister hospital in Jonesborough. If necessary, many of the country's most knowledgeable specialists in the fields of avian and exotic medicien and surgery are just a phone call away. We have the ability to perform delicate surgeries, care for critically ill patients, and the resources to provide up-to-date husbandry information.
