Endoscopy:
Mountain
Empire Animal Hospital has acquired a Storz fiber optic video endoscopy
system. While it does require general anesthesia, endoscopy allows the
non-invasive visualization of accessible structures. Most commonly, this
is used to look at the stomach and duodenum or the rectum and colon. Findings
are both immediately viewable and also recordable by Polaroid images.
This system allows us to make accurate diagnoses (and therefore accurate
treatment) of many chronic gastrointestinal diseases as well as retrieve
many foreign bodies without the need of surgery. Our goal is to expand
this technology to be able to visualize the respiratory system as well
as the urinary system.
