DEAN BAIRD, D.V.M. Auburn University 1986


Dr. Baird is a native of Piney Flats. He received a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee and graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. After 3.5 years in mixed animal practice in Morristown, TN, he has been with Mountain Empire Affiliated Hospitals since 1989, first at Jones Animal Hospital, then at Mountain Empire Animal Hospital since 1998. He has special interests in cardiology and ultrasound, is a director of the Tri-City Academy of Veterinary Medicine, and a member of the Veterinary Ultrasound Society. He and his wife and two sons enjoy church, camping, hiking, two dogs , and one cat.

 

 

RONALD E. SCOTT, D.V.M. Auburn University 1971


Dr. Scott is a Johnson City native as has been his family for six generations. He attended University school all twelve years, graduating in 1965. Upon high school graduation, he attended the University of Tennessee, completing the pre-veterinary curriculum in two years and was subsequently accepted at Auburn University under the regional veterinary school program in place at that time. After graduation from Auburn in 1971, he served an internship and practiced in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dr. Ed Cassell and Dr. Scott decided to begin Mountain Empire Animal Hospital in 1972 and opened the practice at its present location in October of 1972. They were joined by their friend, Dr. Tom Snodgrass in May of 1973. Dr. Scott enjoys general practice with interests in orthopedic and general surgery as well as endoscopy. He and his wife Jan enjoy their family (2 daughters, 1 son, 1 son-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law), church, boating and traveling. Privately, he attends to his herd of 36 cows 4 dogs and 1 cat, modelmaking (HOn3 trains and anything tiny), woodworking, collecting construction toys, music (trumpet and tuba) and rebuilding a 1967 Ford pick-up truck.
