capable of providing for your pets health needs. Services range from
vaccinations to treatment of serious medical conditions, from dentals
to neuters, and fracture repair to the latest in Laser Surgery. Please
check out a more detailed list of our services.
PREVENTATIVE
MEDICINE
At Jonesborough Animal Hospital, we recommend yearly physical exams
to help maintain your pet's health status. We monitor weight and body
temperature, look for potential medical problems, and discuss current
medical or surgical problems. We update any vaccinations that are needed,
check for internal and external parasites (heartworms, intestinal worms,
fleas and ticks, etc) and discuss treatment and preventative options.
For example we now offer an injection for heartworm and intestinal worm
prevention that lasts 6 months!
MEDICAL
CARE
Should your pet become sick, our doctors have over 27 years of combined
experience to properly diagnose the problem and prescribe treatment.
We have in house lab equipment to give us immediate results. For more
specialized tests we use commercial labs and most results can be obtained
in 12-24 hours. We have X-Ray capabilities and can have results in minutes.
For severely ill pets, we can hospitalize at our facility on site to
continue treatments, provide intravenous fluids, intravenous antibiotics,
etc. Some of the most common cases we treat are Parvo Virus, pancreatitis,
kidney failure, diabetes, etc.
SURGICAL
CARE
At Jonesborough Animal Hospital, we use a variety of anesthesia protocols
to best fit the needs of our patients and the type of procedure to be
preformed. Blood tests can be preformed to rule out medical problems
before the use of surgical anesthesia. Patients are monitored during
anesthesia with a pulse oximeter which registers heartbeat and oxygen
content of blood. Soft tissue surgeries include laceration repairs,
routine spays and castrations, tumor removals, and intestinal surgeries.
Orthopedic surgeries include cruciate ligament repairs, joint luxations,
congenital defects, and fracture repairs. A variety of options are available
for fracture repair, including bone plates if needed. We receive referrals
from several area animal hospitals for orthopedic surgeries. The recent
addition of a state-of-the-art CO2 Laser unit now allows us to do surgeries
with less pain, less swelling and less bleeding. In some cases the Laser
will allow us to do procedures which at one time could only be done
a University Hospital. For routine surgeries the Laser is optional.
SPECIALIZED
PROCEDURES
In some cases special diagnostic procedures or referral to specialists
may be recommended. Within our group of hospitals in the Tri-Cities
are, we have capabilities for ultrasound and endoscopy and doctors with
special interests in behavioral medicine and exotics. We also have a
good working relationship with the University of Tennessee in cases
that a specialist is needed.
